C. C. "Cliff" Gibson, III



Arkansas lawyer Cliff Gibson founded the Monticello law firm of Gibson & Keith in 1981. Since then he and the other lawyers of the firm have provided legal services to many of the people and businesses of Arkansas.


In addition to an active trial practice, Gibson has served five times as a Special Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court and as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the 10th Judicial District. He presently serves as the County Attorney for Drew County, Arkansas, and previously served as an Instructor of Business Law at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He is a Sustaining Member of the Arkansas Bar Association and has served in the Association’s House of Delegates. He is also a member and supporter of the Arkansas Bar Foundation, the American Association For Justice, the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association, and the Southeast Arkansas Legal Institute where he served as president. His legal writings have been published in the UALR Law Journal and the ATLA Docket, and he has conducted continuing legal education seminars for other attorneys for both the Arkansas Bar Association and the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association. History being a first love, he has written several historical articles which have been published.


Gibson has also been active in business including over 30 years of service as a Director of Commercial Bank & Trust Company of Monticello, and over 10 years of service as a Director of Arkansas Title Insurance Company, and over 23 years as President of Drew County Abstract & Title Company.


He also has been active in community affairs by serving over 10 years on the governing board of Legal Services of Arkansas, and as a Director and President of both the Monticello-Drew County Chamber of Commerce and the Monticello Economic Development Commission, and has donated his legal services to establish and support the Economic Development Fund of Monticello (also known as Twenty For The Future), the Drew County Community Council, the Drew County War On Drugs Core Group, the Drew County Veteran’s Association, and the Drew County Peace Officers Association, and is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the City of Monticello. A 32nd degree Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason, he has twice served as Master of Eureka Lodge No. 40 in Monticello and has twice been the recipient of the Pillars of Solomon Award from the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Arkansas. 


In March of 2013 Gibson was appointed by Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe to a 10-year term on the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas where he has chaired several Committees, including the Academic & Student Affairs Committee, the Agriculture Committee, the Audit & Fiscal Responsibility Committee, and the Joint Hospital Committee which has responsibility for the operations of the UA Medical Sciences hospital and medical school. On January 26, 2022, Gibson was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas.


In June of 2020, the Arkansas Bar Association bestowed the James McKenzie Professionalism Award on Gibson. The McKenzie award recognizes sustained excellence through integrity, character and leadership to the legal profession and the community.


He and his wife Lisa are members of the First United Methodist Church in Monticello. They have two children and three grandchildren.
